This week’s spotlight is Tamar from Fashion Binge. I’ve been a loyal reader for quite some time now and I must say, it’s one of my favorite blogs out there. If it’s yours, too, then this short interview will help you learn more about this trendy blog! Enjoy.
1. How would you describe Fashion Binge in 3 words?
Unserious, unpretentious, lighthearted.
2. What makes Fashion Binge different from other blogs?
The blog started because we were constantly IMing each other either stuff we wanted to buy or would NEVER in a million years buy. That grew into a blog that embraced our first-person/ we’re-your-friend voice unconcerned with being in the front row at fashion week or schooling you on “what’s hot or not.” We’re not concerned with being a TOTAL fashion know-it-alls or massive experts or being the type of blog that just repurposes press releases. We just like to infuse our opinions in what we post, and we like to post about stuff we absolutely love, stuff you might want to know is on sale, and stuff that’s so heinous that we honestly can’t believe it made it into production. Like Santino said on season 2 of Project Runway, “Lighten up, it’s just fashion!”
3. What are the ups and downs being a fashion blogger?
There are no downs, really, because our aims and expectations — let’s post stuff we love or do not love! We’re pretty realistic that this is a really fun hobby but not a living, and it’s not serious. It’s just words on a virtual page, and hopefully you enjoy reading them!
4. Tell us what your daily life like (when you’re not blogging)?
Well, actually… I blog! I’m senior editor of a website, and one of my projects is a daily blog! So when I’m not blogging I’m… blogging. Catherine is copy chief at a magazine. But in all honesty, I have a TON of respect for people who devote themselves to blogging almost around the clock, but it’s important to actually shut down the computer and maintain your relationships and actually talk to people face to face.
5. What’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought this Summer?
That would be my new khaki silk Diane Von Furstenberg dress. Or my peach Coach Kristin satchel in peach. They were big purchases for me, since I rarely spend over $100 on much. But these were investments, and I got them on sale.
6. What’s your favorite thing to shop for?
Probably dresses. I love the variety and that “eureka/ huzzah! feeling when a dress fits perfectly and you can dress it up or down and wear it in the summer or with tights and long-sleeved shirt and jacket in the winter.
7. Who’s your role model in fashion? Why?
Probably Diane Von Furstenberg. Like jeans, or a leather jacket or Chuck Taylors, she pioneered a complete classic that’s worked for decades and both defied and embraced trends. People will still be wearing Diane von Furstenberg dresses years from now.
PS: Thanks for taking the time, Tamar! : )
