POP Beauty and Essie: How Pale Can You Go?

by Vie on April 12, 2012

In case you didn’t know yet, pale colors are totally in demand for this season. Be it pale colored dresses, shoes or nail polish! Today I get the chance to make a nice comparison between 2 of the most lovable brands in nail industry, Essie and Pop Beauty. I notice that they recently added these colors as part of their Spring campaign. We are already familiar with Pop Beauty Nail Glam and this time they come in pretty pale shades to celebrate the romantic Spring while Essie made these pales as part of their special Wedding Collection. At a glance they might look quite the same but if you take a closer look, you’ll find the distinctive difference. So, which one are you? The Pop diva or the Essie girl? ; )

Dear Vie,

One of my obsessions is collecting new fragrances. I wish you could write more about perfumes. Do you think you can list down new perfumes for Spring/Summer? I’d love to be updated with the season’s most formidable scents.

Thank you,
Simone

Hi Simone, thank you for writing me! and I’m sorry that I hadn’t written much about perfumes. I accept your advice and would put it in my future writings. Betsey Johnson Scented Nail Polish

When it comes to manicure and pedicure, I’m a complete addict. I love having neat and clean nails. I believe that you can know what a person is like by looking at their nails. If they’re at least clean and neat (doesn’t necessarily have to be well groomed), then you know that they take good care of themselves. Speaking of nails, I also love experimenting with different colors, although for regular days I’d stick to classic French but there are days when I feel like having shocking pink, orange or green. However, there’s one thing I dislike about nail colors; their strong and distinctive smell. Some of them are so strong you’d need to put your mask on.

However, there’s always a solution for every problem, in this case, a scented nail color. Betsey Johnson recently introduced her signature Too Too scented nail polish! If you love the perfume, then you’re gonna love the nail color. They complement your girly afternoon and a fun girl’s night out. With her signature neon pink color, you’ll feel nothing but fun, flirty love. It’s definitely a must-have product of the week! US$9.50.

John Frieda Full Repair Collection

Winter can be an exciting time for fashionistas and chic professionals alike because it gives them the chance to pull out their most stunning full-length coats, fiercest boots, and other cold weather accessories. But one thing that may not look so great once the temperatures hit freezing is your hair.

One of the most common issues that you may have with your hair during winter is a lack of moisture. Extreme temperatures are prone to drying your hair and making it more weak and brittle. For this reason, winter hair is also more prone to breakage and split ends. However, you can learn how to get healthy winter hair with these tips.

Prepare your hair for winter.
The first step to shiny, supple winter hair is to start before the temperature drops. When autumn arrives, be sure to head to your stylist to get a quick trim of your ends to eliminate frayed ends and give your hair a fresh start after the heat, swimming, and other stresses that summer can exert on your strands. Now is also the time to switch out your summer products for more nourishing formulas that will protect your hair from the winter freeze. The John Frieda Full Repair line is an excellent choice if you’re searching for rich ingredients that provide maximum moisture without weighing hair down.

Condition your hair often.
And next, remember to moisturise! If there’s only one key tip that you’re able to implement for healthier winter hair, it’s this one. Because of the drying effects of the weather, which are often compounded by many of your favourite winter accessories like wool and cotton hats and scarves, your hair will be begging for more moisturising formulas.

Luckily, there are several kinds of conditioner (as well as several ways to use them) to help combat this problem. You probably already use a daily conditioner after shampooing your hair, but now is a good time to consider adding a bit of leave-in conditioner to your routine immediately before blow drying your hair. This will ensure that your locks have a bit of heat protection and make hair softer and shinier. If you have a hard time controlling split ends, you can also use a bit of leave-in conditioner after your hair is dry to seal your ends.

Next, you should also make sure that you use a weekly conditioner like John Frieda Full Repair Deep Conditioner in winter to give your hair an opportunity to restore itself. Because deep conditioners are usually left to sit on the hair for longer than daily conditioners, they have the chance to bond to each hair cuticle and fill in gaps where breakage has occurred. When you deep condition, wrap your hair in a plastic cap and then once again with a towel to create a gentle heat that will help activate your conditioner.

Prevent dry scalp.
A dry scalp is also a problem that many people contend with in winter. For most people, the scalp produces natural oils that help keep the hair moisturised, but if you find that you experience more flaking when the weather is cold, you should wash your hair less frequently. This is because many shampoos contain ingredients like sulphate that can make your dry scalp worse. Instead of washing your hair every day or every other day, try to go several days in a row without washing.

Now that you’ve got the scoop on how to maintain your chic style during the coldest months of the year, go forth and be stylish!
