6 Tips to Have an Enjoyable Winter

Filed under News, Tips & Trends

by Vie on December 18, 2011

It’s been pouring like crazy in Bali. After a long anticipation, finally we can enjoy the cool breeze and relaxing sound of the rain. Our house is close to rice paddies and empty lots so when the wind blowing our way, it can be quite cold. This wet season always makes me feel lazy and mellow, and I really don’t feel like going out unless it’s necessary. I just love curling up at home with a good book, good movies and of course, good food. Now I know winter isn’t the same with rain, but since the rain here also comes with the wind and storm, I’d like to keep myself warm at home. Anyways, here’s what I think you can do (besides turning the heater on) to keep yourself cozy even if it’s cold outside.

1. Wear Comfy Sweater and pants.
I know, typical right? but not this time. Instead of lounging around in your grandma sweater, why don’t we get you something more stylish and hip? Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean you can look whatever. Here are some nice combos I found that will definitely make your day/night much more enjoyable, and yes, they are super comfortable you wouldn’t want to take them off.

Cute Sweaters and Pants

1. Victoria’s Secret Long Sleeve Athletic Tee. US$29.50.
2. See by Chloe Knitted Cotton Sweater. US$340.
3. Ralph Lauren Black Label Knitted Sweater. US$4oo.
4. Victoria’s Secret Wear Everywhere Pant. US$39.50.
5. Juicy Couture Terry Sailor Pant. US$84.99.
6. Jockey Scrubs Comfort Pants. US$38.

2. Cover Your Toes Right.
If you plan to stay warm, then you should consider wrapping your feet right, because having cold feet means having cold everything. I have chosen some cute socks to complement your adorable outfit!

Cute Socks

2. Old Navy Liner Socks 3 Set. US$6.50.

4. Rachel Greene 2 Pack Argyle/Hearts. US$5.99.
5. Madewell Cypress Socks. US$11.
6. Sonoma Life 3 Pack Ribbed Socks. US$4.99.

3. Give Yourself Relaxing Massages.
There’s nothing more heavenly than having relaxing massage. This next item is recommendable for you who wants to stay home but still feeling all pampered and relaxed. These personal massagers are total must-haves, especially if you spend most of the time sitting in front of the computer. Good news is they are quite affordable! Give yourself an excellent reward!

4. Make a Cup of Hot Coco.
The perfect choice for cold season. No matter how old (or young) you are, there’s always room in your tummy for a cup of classic hot coco. I’ve found some yummy selection that would definitely make you crave for more than one cup! Enjoy this with your loved ones and feel the instant warmth!

You can never be too old for this. A loyal companion that you can snuggle and squeeze anytime you feel like it! Cuddle him when watching movies in the couch or snuggle him when taking afternoon nap.

8 Things to Do to Beat the Winter Blues

Filed under News, Tips & Trends

by Vie on December 5, 2011

Having lived in the tropics all her life, my friend is having a hard time moving to the cold. She recently migrated to Europe to be with her boyfriend and she told me that she is quite depressed by the weather. I think she’s having a winter blues. It might take her a while to adjust but that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy the process. This gives me a writing idea! I’m sure she’s not the only one who’s having this problem, which is why I hope this particular post can also be useful to others. Here’s what I would do if I’ve ever moved to a cold country.

1. Exercise

Winter Blues: Exercise

Exercise gives you more energy, thanks to the endorphin released. I find myself feeling good and refreshed throughout the day when I exercise in the morning. You don’t have to go to the gym if you don’t feel like it, here are some types of exercise I do at home: core exercise, kettle bell swing, yoga, weight-lifting, squating, jumping jacks! Don’t forget to do proper stretching, too : )

2. Good Reads and Good Watch

Winter Blues: Good Reads and Movies

Occupy yourself with good books or good movies. Whenever I feel like to cave myself in, I always get myself comfortable with a nice cup of hot chocolate/tea and read my books or watch movies. For the winter blues, you might want to read something light – like chick flicks, and watch something funny. Romantic comedies always work for me.

3. Tune into Great Music

Winter Blues: Music

Music always gives me good mood. Whenever I feel slow in the morning, I always turn on my music loud and it makes me hum and wants to dance. Therefore I’m wide awake and ready to welcome the new day.

4. Hot Bubble Bath

Winter Blues: Hot Bubble Bath

There’s nothing more relaxing and comforting than a nice long bubble bath. Lit some scented-candles around the tub and soak yourself in. Take your time and enjoy the warmth. At time like this, a little bit of self-pampering is always recommendable.

5. Hanging Out With Girlfriends

Winter Blues: Girlfriends

Call up your friends and have them over, or the other way around. When you feel sad and depressed, that’s when you need your girlfriends the most. You can do a lot of indoor activities together, such as watching movies, playing games, baking, gossiping or even a little beauty session!

6. Redecorate

Winter Blues: Redecorate

I always find redecorating my living space a fun thing to do because I feel like I’m living in a new environment once it’s done. Of course this may take a lot of effort and energy but the outcome is usually worth it.

7. Learn New Recipes

Winter Blues: Cooking

Christmas is coming soon and it’s a perfect time to master your cooking skills. Find new recipes online and practice it at home, who knows you might be the next cooking mama.

8. Adopt a Pet

Winter Blues: Adopt a Pet

December is a good month to do good deeds, why not give our furry friends a warm home? Visit your closest shelter and bring them home. Whether you’re a cat or dog person, this is absolutely a noble thing to do. But if your apartment is too small or it’s impossible to adopt one, spending time at an animal shelter gives you new perspective. It always gives me warm and cozy feeling : )

What to Wear For Your Next Holiday Party

Filed under Fashion,News, Tips & Trends

by Vie on November 30, 2011

I am so excited that December is finally here. Today I plan to take my Christmas tree out. My favorite activities in December include decorating the tree, watching Christmas movies and playing Christmas songs (OK, and doing Christmas shopping, too ; ) December also means celebration, whether you celebrate it at church or with family and friends, you need to look good and feel good. For that, I am here to assist you. Today I’ll be talking about Holiday Party Looks. That’s right ladies, I have found 4 different and amazing looks for everyone. Classic, sexy, sweet or classy, I got them all covered. Hope they give you some real good dress-up ideas. Enjoy!

Holiday Party Looks Chic City Girl

If you consider little black dress is your style, then you are definitely in the City Girl category. I personally think this look is simple but very elegant. For this look book, I take Rebecca Taylor’s satin dress (US$425) because I think it’s full of fun & glamor, then I match it with Mango’s hot clutch bag (US$89.90), along with unique soles from Charlotte Olympia (US$805) to brush up your dolly look. As for the final touch up, I have this unique necklace from House of Harlow 1960 (US$132) and sexy mysterious red for your lips from Yves Saint Laurent (US$34).

Holiday Party Looks The Little Sweetheart

From sexy city girl, we move to a more subtle and sweet looking, the Little Sweetheart! When you feel romantic and girly, then you can consider having this look for your party. This lovely little dress from Notte by Marchesa (US$695) is so pretty you will look like a doll in it. Now we just need to put you in pale pink heels, like this pair from Calvin Klein (US$37.25), then we match them with a little crossbody/clutch bag from Big Buddha (US$49.99). Of course that’s not all, we need to add a bit more bling, that’s when this set from Dorothy Perkins come along, a stunning crystal chiffon set (US$27). Last but not least, we gotta powder you up with this luxurious pressed palette from Guerlain (US$67).

Holiday Party Looks Vintage Darling

Seen a lot of old movies lately and got inspired by them? Then you’re bound to be the Vintage Darling. This classic “oldie” look is so astonishing I have a good time mixing and matching. I found this adorable cotton dress from Vivienne Westwood (US$710), then I was taken to this charming little bag from Milly (US$265), isn’t it just adorable? Next, I figured I need to find Mary Jane shoes to complete this whole vintage vibe, therefore I found this suede pair from Topshop (US$136). And then, I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be great if I could also include one of the most fashionable cities in the world to represent this classy look? So I was browsing for some options and my choice goes to this exquisite vintage cuff from Evocateur (US$298), it’s so perfect! And finally, I closed my finding with a must-have liquid liner from MAC (US$17.50) because when you wanna go back in time, you’re gonna need a lot of black liner to define your sexy peepers! : )

Holiday Party Looks The Runway Diva

Finally, we have the Runway Diva for those who never want to get out of style, who worship glamor and never missed any runway shows. This particular look is full of feminine flavors, from the stunning floral dress from Tibi (US$570), the adorable bow clutch from See by Chloe (US$360) and the sexy fishnet shoes from Martinez Valero (US$76.99). These 3 elements are enough to give you the high-profile look, but how about we add a bit more color and glam? Like a pair of bow & pearl earrings from Juicy Couture (US$48) and a brush of  Dior’s flashing red nail lacquer (US$22). Now that your diva look is completed, you are welcome to show it off!

So what do you think ladies, which look would you go for? : )
